Painting Box Series & Metronomes

The Painting Box series consists of several box-like apparatuses made of mirror, acetate / acrylic and MDF wood.

Combining objects that result from the painting process (acetate and acrylic used as painting palettes), at first glance, the angled mirror makes it seem as though the painted surface is facing the viewer when, in reality, due to its unusual movement, once the viewer walks through the space it becomes clear that what is front-facing is the mirror and the reflected image.

They are small windows of sky that open in reverse to show us fragments of an inversion of the viewing process.

Metronomes

2020

MDF, oil on acrylic, mirror

5 x 30 x 5 cm

Using the same process materials as the Painting Boxes, the Metronomes are named in this way due to their shape and to their motion when suspended: tracking the intensity and direction of the wind, keeping time not in sound but through their sway.

The shadows they cast are also a reflection of the shade of the trees and the light conditions of the moment, leaving them hanging somewhere between a Sundial and a Metronome.
